Hovland Learning Center at Southeast Tech
The Hovland Learning Center at Southeast Technical College offers Basic Skill Development, ESL and GED preparation courses for adult learners. Funded through the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation, the Hovland Learning Center meets individual needs of students through independent learning labs and free, structured classes. The center is staffed with qualified, friendly teachers who are always willing to help.

GED Preparation
Students with first languages other than English can participate in ESL classes through
the Hovland Learning Center.
ESL Information
Indivduals that need to improve on basic skills in reading, language and math to get into college or get a job can utilize the Aspire2Tech program.
The Hovland Learning Center offers students a quiet space to study and learn. Explore this space virtually!
Students utilizing resources at the Hovland Learning Center will undergo an initial assessment and are required to attend 6 hours each week. After 40-60 hours of instruction time, students will receive a post assessment.
Individuals wishing to utilize services at the Hovland Learning Center must be:
At least 16 years of age AND beyond the compulsory attendance age (18 years of age in South Dakota).
Not enrolled in any K-12 schools.
In possession of a valid Social Security card or comparable documentation.

GED courses prepare students for the General Education Development exam, which covers four areas of knowledge: social studies, math, science and language arts. Students must pass all four sections to earn their certification. The GED certification verifies that the student has attained high-school level academic skills.
